As promised and long overdue we decided to feature two of Cape Tows neatest mk1 Golf’s, ironically both owned by Rushdie Samuels. He’s been building golf’s for a very long time and I thought it was a good idea to take look at he’s two current beauties.

If this was a boxing match we would have two different styles of Kampfkraft (means fighting in German). The Two Cars share the legendary Mk1 symbolism, but they are worlds apart in terms of styling and their approach to performance.  The white car year model 1979 is of the early two door Mk1’s that were produced in the country. Many golf enthusiasts see this particular model as the epitome of what the VW golf is. This particular specimen has been nurtured into a classic euro styled normal aspirated sleeper. On the outside 16” BSX wheels and chrome bumpers do just enough to hide the cars free breathing 2.0 16v build.  That said the build is no ordinary one, managing 155kw and 245nm (pump fuel) at Ferroli the 2.0 lump has had its fair share of upgrades and tweaking. Throttle bodies by precision, Scat rods as well as a solid lifter head are just a few key ingredients to a recipe that is working. We should see this car doing some amazing track times soon. Be warned

In the opposite corner we have the more aggressive 1984 red 290kw 500n.m monster tuned by Dynotecs tuner Isak. And yes if you wondering this 2.0 16v is t3/t4 charged, the 1.4 bars of punching power ensure that the white line stays solid. Other essential modifications include 750cc injectors, a ported head, modified cam shafts and a customized gear box done by Rushdie himself. A snow performance methanol kit ensures there is a healthy octane mix when hitting the high boost. This particular car was featured in speed and sound magazine a few months ago and is currently hitting 12.5 at Killarney raceway as well as causing havoc in and around cape town. Be warned. x2

Unlike many other guys on the racing scene Rushdie maintains neat and perfect examples of what a golf should look like with performance of the highest standard. Who said golf’s are slow and look ordinary? Respect
